The
Tall Ship at Glasgow Harbour.
Four
areas of audio interpretation designed to enhance the visitor experience on
board The Glenlee, a tall ship built on the Clyde and now being restored by
volunteers.
Much of the narrative is taken from the logs of people who actually worked on
such ships in the late 1800's and conveys the conditions on board and life for
the sailor.

Doocot
Scapa
Flow Visitor Centre
Probably
the smallest dedicated av venue in Scotland.
Housed in an unmanned 15th century doocot measuring 2m x 3m x 25m high, the
story of the appearance of the Saltire in the sky is told using voice, sound
effects and lighting.
In
complete contrast, Scapa Flow visitor centre is the largest single av space.
Within a massive disused wartime oil tank which contains whole vehicles and
boats, an 11m wide panoramic video programme projects directly onto the wall
of the tank and tells the fascinating history of Scapa Flow from Viking times,
through its strategic role in the two World Wars until the present. Archive
footage is used along with previously unseen stills from local Orkney sources
and an especially composed sound track.
The addition of huge lighting effects, searchlights, gobos etc and additional
tracks of effects sound surrounding the viewer make the experience of Scapa
Flow memorable.

The
11th Century seat of the Clan Maclean is well established on the tourist map
of Scotland, since its restoration in the early 20th Century. Being a keep for
the major part, access for disabled or infirm visitors to the upper floors of
the castle has been difficult and has in the past dissuaded some potential visitors.
A video tour of the upper floors, including the spectacular views from the rooftop
battlements, was commissioned and specially filmed.
The video is shown in the Great Hall, which all the visitors can reach, and
those who are unable to negotiate the turnpike stairs can still ‘see’
the bedrooms, exhibition etc
The client reports it to be a great success with visitors.

John
Knox House Edinburgh
Although
John Knox House has been a visitor attraction for many years, there has been
no interpretation of one of its main attractions, the Oak Room with it’s
painted ceiling.
An audio point is housed within an oak chest topped by a supporting graphic
panel with buttons for visitor choice of 2 narrative tracks.
A conversation between John Knox and Mary Queen of Scots and a storytelling
description of the painted ceiling can be accessed by the visitor and is proving
to be popular.

in the foyer.
The
Caskie Letters: Rev. Donald Caskie, The Tartan Pimpernel, was responsible
for the escape of hundreds of servicemen from France during the War. A collection
of letters in the NLS archive from mothers, wives, children and the men involved
themselves, written to The Church of Scotland to thank Rev Caskie during and
after the war, were researched and then used by Sheena Irving to create an evocative,
narrative soundtrack to illustrate the Caskie collection. Crawford Logan and
Hilary Neville narrate.

Two local ladies working in radio operations and at Bletchley Park during the
war, were interviewed, recorded and edited by Sheena Irving and their fascinating,

Rutherglen
Museum:
The
first museum dedicated to the Royal Burgh of Rutherglen was created in 2005
in the newly refurbished Town Hall in the town.
The exhibition deals with the full spectrum of the history of the town from
medieval times, through agriculture, weaving, mining, shipbuilding and other
heavy industry to the present day and taking in schools, buildings, gala days
and tenement life.
SIAV created sound-scapes for each of the 4 principal display areas
The Time Tunnel entrance, Development of the town, Agriculture and coalmining
and Shipbuilding and other industries. 3 sound plays were devised by SIAV, scripted
produced by Pam Wardell.
3 video productions relied heavily on the only existing archive material and
utilised archive stills of Industries, Shipbuilding and Housing development
each supported by descriptive text.
The weaving display shows archive images, text and quotes enhanced with an effects
track of rhythmic weaving sounds.
An archive film from 1926 depicting 800years of Rutherglen burgh also runs in
the exhibition.
In addition, the entrance to the exhibition features a visual programme devised
using images shot by a local youth digital arts project
